Recruitment of local students into an LGBTQ+ school group previously banned in Salinas

Informed Parents recently received information regarding the startup of another “UBU” student group on a local campus. For those who do not understand what “UBU” means, it is a reference to “you be you” as a person. However, it is actually more deceptive than that. It is a group for students in 3rd to 6th grade with the supposed purpose to provide a “safe and accepting space” for young people who are part of the LGBTQI+ community, or those who may have one of their family members that is part of that community. Yet, beyond the frosting and the sweet sounding motives like promoting kindness and acceptance on the school campus, all is not what it seems.

There are other existing UBU groups that have been set up with a more sinister intent of preying upon unsuspecting youngsters for grooming them into a transexual or an immoral lifestyle. Not long ago, the Spreckels Union School District in Salinas found itself liable for a lawsuit originating from a serious controversy over the school’s “Equality Club,” eventually known as UBU. Two teachers had created the club at the Buena Vista Middle School, but became the objects of scrutiny after an article exposed what they were actually doing through UBU. Then, came the lawsuit!

In October of 2021, teachers from California met in Palm Springs for the California Teachers Association’s annual LGBTQ+ Issues Conference. A revealing article was posted not long after the conference regarding what is discussed behind closed school doors: How Activist Teachers Recruit Kids - by Abigail Shrier. The same author wrote the book, “Irreversible Damage: The Transgender Craze Seducing Our Daughters.” Despite the truth in it, Schrier’s book was viewed by LGBTQI+ sympathizers as an “attack” upon the transgender community. However, the article was enough to prompt the leaders of the Spreckels Union School District to suspend the UBU club and to open an investigation while they placed the teachers on administrative leave. Jessica Konen, a mother of one of the students sued Spreckels Union School District, claiming that teachers at Buena Vista Middle School “had secretly encouraged her daughter Alicia, then 11, to change her gender identity.” Konen had been unaware her daughter started identifying as a boy until her daughter was in seventh grade and the mother was called to a meeting at the principal’s office. It was in December 2019. In 2022, Konen decided to sue the district, and she won the lawsuit. It cost the school district $100,000.  Yet, collateral damage proved more costly to the district in legal fees, administrative and staff time, and administrative leave time for the two teachers involved.

This is one extreme example of activist teachers focused more on sexual grooming of young people as opposed to teaching the core academic subjects. It is why Informed Parents stresses taking action centered around our three core beliefs:

Parents have final say over the education, conduct, and wellbeing of their children--not the school or the government

Transparency between the school and parents is a non-negotiable right

STEM test scores must improve dramatically
