Mahmoud v. Taylor, 2025
In 2025, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled in Mahmoud v. Taylor that public schools must notify parents and allow them to opt their children out of instruction that conflicts with their religious beliefs. It reinforced a principle every Informed Parents chapter is built around: parents — not school administrators — hold final responsibility for their child’s education. Each state’s opt‑out notice applies that right within that state’s own school code.
